What is WaterNeuron?

WaterNeuron is a liquid staking protocol built on the Internet Computer (ICP) network, designed to enhance capital efficiency and decentralize governance. By allowing users to stake ICP tokens and receive liquid nICP tokens in return, WaterNeuron enables participation in DeFi activities without locking up assets, thereby providing both liquidity and staking rewards. The protocol also aims to address centralization concerns by offering an alternative to the Network Nervous System (NNS) voting mechanism.

• nICP Token: When users stake ICP through WaterNeuron, they receive nICP tokens representing their staked assets. These tokens are liquid and can be used across various DeFi platforms, allowing users to earn additional yields while still accruing staking rewards.
• 6-Month Neuron Staking: Staked ICP is aggregated into a 6-month neuron controlled by the WaterNeuron canister. This setup ensures that users benefit from staking rewards without the typical lock-up periods associated with traditional staking methods.
• 8-Year Neuron for Governance: Funds raised through the Service Nervous System (SNS) are staked in an 8-year neuron. Ninety percent of the rewards from this neuron are funneled back to nICP holders, enhancing their yields, while the remaining 10% supports governance activities.
• Decentralized Governance: WaterNeuron introduces a governance model where WTN token holders can participate in decision-making processes, offering a counterbalance to the centralized voting power of the NNS. This approach promotes a more decentralized and community-driven protocol management.

WTN is the governance token of the WaterNeuron protocol, serving multiple roles within the ecosystem:

• Governance Participation: WTN holders can propose and vote on protocol changes, influencing the development and direction of WaterNeuron.
• Reward Distribution: Ten percent of the rewards from the 8-year neuron are allocated to WTN holders, providing them with a share of the protocol's earnings.
