What is Kroma?

Kroma is a next-generation Ethereum Layer‑2 rollup built on the Optimism Bedrock stack and enhanced with both Optimistic and Zero-Knowledge technology. Launched in 2024 by Offchain Labs, Kroma currently operates as an Optimistic Rollup with integrated zk-fault proofs. It runs a zkEVM compatible with the Scroll ecosystem with the goal of transitioning to a full ZK Rollup once proof generation becomes fast and affordable .

Optimism Bedrock provides modularity, security, and upgradeability. Kroma adds zk-proof fallbacks to detect fraud faster, reducing verification delays. With Scroll’s zkEVM integration, Kroma supports Ethereum-native tooling—like Hardhat, Truffle, and Metamask—making migration transparent for developers . Future-proofing includes a path to full Prover decentralization and low-cost finality via zk rollup compression.

Key Features

  • Hybrid L2 Execution: Optimistic transaction model with zk-proof challenge.
  • zkEVM Compatibility: Runs Scroll‑based Ethereum bytecode validation.
  • Modular Rollup: Leveraging Bedrock’s modularity for upgrades and modular ecosystem growth.
  • Security Enhancements: zk-fault proofs add an extra layer of fraud deterrence.
  • Transition Roadmap: Onboarding zk prover benchmarks before shifting fully to ZK Rollup.

Enterprise Use Cases

  • Scalable Smart Contract Deployments: Massive TPS with Ethereum toolchain compatibility.
  • Cost-Efficient Token Operations: Lower gas for treasury and ERP-driven token flows.
  • Automated Compliance: Rollup batch proofs allow for audit trails and immutable reporting.
  • API-Driven Token Accounting: Integrate token mint/burn/transfer data into accounting pipelines.
  • Future-Ready Architecture: Seamless upgrade path to full ZK tech as rollup adoption grows.

By integrating with Cryptoworth’s crypto accounting software, Kroma-generated transactions—rollup batches, proof settlements, and ERC‑20 flows—are captured within ledger entries. This supports cost-basis tracking, unrealized gain reconciliation, and proof-validated accounting for treasury operations on Layer‑2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Cryptoworth track gas and token flows on Kroma?

Yes. Kroma’s node export includes rollup batch details, gas fees, and token operations. Cryptoworth ingests this to produce journal entries showing network cost and net treasury flows.

How does zk-fault proof integration help with auditing?

Each proof batch is timestamped and rolled into Ethereum’s L1—Cryptoworth treats these inclusions as tagged audit points, enabling immutable verification of activity.

Is Kroma suitable for accounting teams managing multi-chain activity?

Absolutely. Kroma supports full metadata export via API alongside Ethereum compatibility—Cryptoworth reconciles L1 and L2 uniformly in financial ledgers.

Can I track transition events when Kroma switches to full ZK Rollup?

Yes. Proof activation milestones and rollup state changes can be tagged, and Cryptoworth will log these as configuration events to prevent data gaps during the transition.
